The minimum they offer is $25,000, with a maximum of $1 million, with higher amounts available on a case-by-case basis. The initial application process only requires filling out a simple form. After it is submitted, a representative will contact the person listed on the application.

The amount given with each grant is not specified. USA Funding Applications charges a $24.95 fee.

Leadership Grants offer grants solely for small businesses. According to its website, all grant applicants must: "Be ready to start or launch their new business within 6 months. Use awarded proceeds within 6 months of receipt. Be an American Citizen or legal immigrant." Decisions on grants are made in January, April, July and October. There is no application fee. Approximately 90 percent of all applicants who submit a well-prepared plan on time are approved.

Business.gov is a network of grants and provides a searchable database for all types of grants, yet specializes in business grants. Business.gov highly recommends the Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC) as a resource for businesses looking for venture capital. It also recommends Active Capital for small businesses interested in between $250,000 and $5 million of venture capital. Business.gov does not list an address. However, its website provides an email form and also offers a toll-free number.

Grants.gov is the official government grant website. It has a searchable database that links 26 government agencies that offer grants. All of the grants listed on grants.gov are government grants. While they are not solely for small business, there are many small business and start-up grants listed on the site. Grants.gov lists information on more than 1,000 grant programs and provides applicants with information on more than $500 billion worth of funding per year.
